My main brooch bases will be either silver, brass or copper this will be the manmade aspect along with other materials in the piece. This can also include resin, acrylic or concrete this will contrast with the natural materials and forms I will include in my pieces.

complementing and contrasting

Firstly using the punching blocks I cut out a copper coin shape from the copper sheet using a hammer.

Next I measured and cut out some flat silver wire and soldered it end to end.

To finish I soldered the silver wire to the copper sheet and pickled. I then snipped the excess off from the outside, filed down and polished. Leaving me with my base brooch piece.
